True Freedom is Now Available as Catholic e-Books
"True freedom... is that freedom which most truly safeguards the dignity of the human person. It is stronger than any violence or injustice. Such is the freedom which has always been desired by the Church, and which she holds most dear." Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, quotes late Pope Leo XIII regarding true freedom and its role in guarding the dignity endowed to all mankind. In recent United States society, this freedom has been taken for granted, allowing embryonic research, relentless disregard for the unborn, and a HHS mandate that ignores conscience protection. Cardinal Dolan observes that "We can see that there is a loss here of a sense of truth and objective moral norms – rules of conduct that apply always, to everyone, everywhere-and an `eclipse of a sense of God and of man'." However in his Catholic e-Books, Cardinal Dolan captures the zeal and delight the Church possesses for life as opposed to the “culture of death.” He recites late Pope John Paul’s call for "a positive, hopeful culture of life [rather] than wringing (our) hands over the culture of death.” Dolan adds that, “By appealing to the necessary link between freedom and truth and by stressing our relationship with the God who has endowed us with both, The Gospel of Life offers us a pathway to building not just good laws, but a free and virtuous culture as well."
True Freedom Catholic e-Books ReleaseTimed close to the religious liberty advocacy event, Fortnight for Freedom from June 21 through July 4, True Freedom Catholic e-Books was released on June 19th. These events are a call to action. Dolan says, "Churches and people of faith - not exclusively Catholics and their bishops, although I would hope that we play a leading role - understand the inherent dignity of the human person and serve as a safeguard against attacks on that dignity."
Cardinal Dolan’s Catholic e-Books ReexaminedThe True Freedom Catholic e-Books ask of everyone to an examination of conscience. Cardinal Dolan asks, "Is genuine freedom the license to do what we ought or the ability to do whatever we want? ... Is law tethered to objective truth, or is it ruled by a 'dictatorship of relativism'?" "Should laws be tailored to suit changing wants, demands, or recently discovered 'rights'?" the cardinal asks. "Or should wants, demands, and novel rights be tempered by law to uphold the sacredness of life, the common good, and the objective moral law?"
